Aud-Eats | ABC Brickworks Hawker "Must Try", Jin Jin Dessert
Recently Kareshi and I was on a dessert hunt. We loves dessert but sadly the hawker center at our place doesn't have any dessert stall. We loved the dessert from whampoa and henderson hawker but we wanted to explore more.
The other night, we decided to go Ikea for a walk (yea, just walk around and see see look look). So we googled to see what's available for diner nearby. Apparently, nearby there's an ABC hawker center with famous dessert. That's it. Time to explore new hawkers.
Kareshi said when he was young, he used to come with his dad but it's been years he has not visited this place so he wasn't sure what's nice here.
It looks and smells quite good. The ingredients are quite generous too. It has 2 big prawns and sotongs.
It is slightly stickier than the other hokkien fried prawn mee I've tried but I think this can ranked as my 2nd favourite Hokkien mee (my top favourite is this >>read here<< at Serangoon road). It taste really different from my top favourite (more garlicky), so I guess you just have to try both yourself to see which suits your palate more.
After a satisfying dinner, how can we end the food hunt without dessert right? As mentioned, google showed us that there's a famous dessert stall that one must try. It is none other than the Jin Jin Dessert!
Jin Jin dessert has 2 must try desserts. First will be the "Power Cendol"
The Gula Melaka coated on top is not your traditional gula melaka. It is hot, sticky and thick like caramel. A mixture of hot and cold sensation. But other than the power gula melaka, I find the other ingredients are average standard. It doesn't have the cendol taste and the red bean wasn't soft and sweet enough.
Next is the "gangster ice"
Gangster Ice is named after the Chinese translation 流氓冰 which 流(榴) represents durian and 氓(芒) means mango. It is served with a scoop of D24 durian puree and fresh mango cubes. Again, the durian puree is a wow! I love it! Mango cubes are sweet but as a whole, it is quite average. It taste kinda blend. They should improve the ice.
To be honest, both desserts don't really wow us much. It wasn't strong enough as a whole. My verdict? 3.5/5. Maybe I was expecting too much hence the slight disappointment. Don't get me wrong, both are nice but not very fantastic to the extent that I will come all the way for it. But it's certainly worth to try at least once if you are here.
